I can’t even tell you how much I love these photos! There is something so amazing about new life, and getting to photograph Benjamin when he was less than 2 hours old, and then getting to photograph him meeting his big brothers was just incredible. This family has 3 adorable boys, John David, who is 3, Brennan, who is 2, and newborn baby Benjamin. I got to the hospital while their mom, Mary Beth, was still in surgery for her c-section and was able to start photographing baby Ben as soon as they took them back to recovery. The big brothers hadn’t arrived yet, so we got a few shots of just mom and dad with baby, and I even got to be there when the nurse was taking Benjamin’s footprints. Shortly after we started taking photos, John David and Brennan arrived to meet their new brother, and the photos of the brothers together are my favorites.
When I first entered the hospital room, baby Benjamin was doing skin to skin with mama, so I hung back and got a few family shots.
Shortly after that, the nurse arrived to take Ben’s footprints. He was not a fan of being separated from his mama and he made sure everyone knew it!
Apparently having your footprints taken is pretty exhausting, because as soon as the nurse finished, Benjamin relaxed and started yawning.
After that, Benjamin got swaddled and Daddy got to snuggle him for awhile.
We got the call that Mary Beth’s mom had arrived with the older boys, and I stepped out to get some photos of the boys arriving and their excitement to meet their brother.
I just love Brennan’s excitement here!
Brennan was shy at first, and at two, probably didn’t completely understand that the baby was his new brother, but at 3, John David got it, and was SO excited and sweet.
Brennan lost his shyness after a few minutes, and he wanted to come meet his new baby brother, too.
I love this photo of Mary Beth overcome with emotion shortly after being reunited with her older boys.
Ryan was such a proud daddy that he had to snap a few cell photos to share immediately.
John David had me cracking up with his expressions as he pretended to talk on the telephone. I’m sure he just wanted to share the news that he was a big brother again!
In between all the sweet big brother moments, I got lots of individual photos of baby Ben.
Mary Beth and Ryan — thank you so much for allowing me to be apart of such a special moment for your family. This session was incredible and I loved every moment!
